Good Stuff: Flight of the Conchords

January 24, 2009

Just started watching this show, unforteuntly I don’t have HBO… so I’m missing the new season. Youtube has a healthy number of clips from the show that are great, here’s two of my favourite:

Good stuff: Def Leppard

April 3, 2008

I remember the first time I listened to Pour Some Sugar on Me, as usual my music tastes were 10 years behind the times and it was late 90s. I quickly became a huge Def Leppard fan as I discovered their numerous hits. Well today I just got wind of two pieces of great news, first it look like Def Leppard is coming to Guitar Hero! Secondly, they will be having an outdoor concertfor the Jimmy Kimmel show. Oh, by the way, I don’t care what you think about them.

Def Leppard, Good stuff.

Good stuff: The Muppets

March 13, 2008

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Muppets, particularly The Muppet Movie, if the opening scene with Kermit singing Rainbow Connectiondoesn’t bring you to tears then you sir are not alive. Well they are making a new Muppet movie and it looks like it might be better than the last few tries to revive the franchise (ie. Muppets in Space). Actor Jason Segel (How I met your mother) will script the new project and Nick Stoller direct. Jason Segel has ton a bunch of stuff I like and his upcoming movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall looks pretty funny from the trailer – it also has Russel Brand in it, anyone outside England won’t know who the hell he is but he’s very funny.

Good stuff: The Soup

September 23, 2007

I’m a big fan of making fun of celebrities, so some of my favorite websites are The Superficial, What Would Tyler Durden and Film Drunk. I’ve now started watching a show called The Soup on E! which basically shows clips of TV shows/celebrities and makes fun. Below are some clips for your enjoyment:

The Soup, Good stuff.

Good stuff: Michael Cera

September 8, 2007

This kid is hilarious, he reminds myself of a young me… well minus my crippling fear of large audiences.

Check out Clark and Michael his online show. Here’s my favorite episode:

Another favorite is a video he made mocking that Yale student who applied for an Investment Banking job using a video application.

Michael Cera, good stuff.

Good stuff: Christopher Hitchens

May 16, 2007

I saw this Christopher Hitchens on the Daily Show and I liked his style. While he is often described as Conservative, he has responded with “well I have no party affiliation, no ideological one,” and he is not afraid to criticize Bush and the Republicans. Some of my favorite things about this guy”

  1. His stance on religion is similar to mine. He was on the Daily Show plugging his new book, “God is not great: How religion poisons everything” and while I haven’t read the book yet, he raised a lot of good points in the interview. Unfortunately Youtube doesn’t have a clip of that so here is a clip of him ranting on religion:
  2. A profile by the National Public Radio stated: “Hitchens is known for his love of cigarettes and alcohol — and his prodigious literary output.” Hitchens has also written that his daily intake of alcohol was enough “to kill or stun the average mule” and that many great writers “did some of their finest work when blotto, smashed, polluted, shitfaced, squiffy, whiffled, and three sheets to the wind.” Here’s a clip of some good Hitchens moments, including him giving the audience on  the Bill Mahr show the finer:
  3. He served as the Devil’s Advocate during the canonization of Mother Teresa in 2002 which he later describes as “representing the devil pro bono.”
  4. His stance on Bush and the Iraq war, also I enjoy how he continually interupts the interviewer.

Good stuff Christopher Hitchens.

Good stuff: Cocktails

April 20, 2007

I like beer… I appreciate good wine… I even enjoy a glass of port or cognac after dinner, but what I really love are cocktails. If I had to choose between drinking a beer or a cocktail, I would choose a cocktail hands-down. Is there anything less manly about that? I don’t think so, Ernest Hemingway didn’t think so, and he fought bulls! Incidentally, his two favorite drinks were Daiquiris and Mojitos (in my top 5 as well).

As it turns out cocktails are also health foods according to this article. This makes sense as cocktails were originally a morning beverage, with the name being a metaphor for the rooster (“heralding morning light of day”), or so Wikipedia claims. Suddenly my drinking 2 Bloody Marys every morning doesn’t seem so unhealthy… does it Dr. Wang?? Whose got the drinking problem now?
